August Is Dental Month!

Dental month…

August Dental Month

We’re all for bright smiles and wagging tails!

Did you know that dental disease is the most preventable disease in adult dogs and cats? Just like people, our pets need proper dental care. It’s critical for their overall health!

We are offering free dental checks throughout August.

During this 15-minute appointment, our qualified vets will check your pet’s teeth for tartar buildup, signs of gingivitis, and any other oral health problems. They will give you a report on your pet’s oral health and make recommendations for any preventative or maintenance treatment you can do at home or if any dental work such as a scale and polish or extractions is needed. Prevention is always better than cure!

Hurry though – a limited number of appointments are available. Call now to book – 07 5493 2655 or create an account for our Pet Portal and book your appointment online.

Come in for a free dental check in August and you will also receive:

  • 10% off dental procedures. If your pet is recommended any dental treatment, you will receive 10% off (terms & conditions apply)
  • Opportunity to win a bag of Royal Canin Dental dry food. Each week we are giving away one bag of Royal Canin Dental dry food for dogs and one for cats, valued at up to $102
  • Free Dental Club membership (terms and conditions apply).

What’s Oral Health For Pets All About?

Saliva, bacteria, and food particles combine to form plaque on teeth every day. If plaque is not removed from the teeth it mineralises with the natural calcium in the saliva and forms tartar – the hard, brown build-up you see on your pet’s teeth. Tartar does not come off with brushing; it requires scaling by your veterinarian, just like your dentist does for you.

Plaque also causes gingivitis (inflammation of the gums) and smelly breath. If this is left untreated it will become periodontal disease – a serious gum infection that damages the gums and can destroy the ligaments and bone that support the teeth. Eventually, the teeth will start to fall out. Gingivitis and periodontal disease can be painful, leading to loss of appetite and painful chewing. Not to mention terrible breath!

Poor oral health can also cause other infections such as lesions and infections of the tooth socket. Ouch!

Sounds Serious

Yes, it is. Just like in humans, poor oral health in our pets may contribute to other health conditions. In addition to the pain of the gingivitis and periodontitis itself, if the mouth has a chronic disease, the inflammation can spread as the toxins are absorbed into the bloodstream, passing into the rest of the body including kidneys, heart, and brain.

We brush our teeth every day, twice a day is the gold standard for people.  When was the last time you brushed your pet’s teeth? If you can’t remember, then it’s time you booked them in for a dental check to make sure your pet is in tip-top shape and not suffering any pain or discomfort.

Seven Signs Of Dental Disease To Look Out For

  • Bad breath
  • Discolouration of teeth
  • Redness or inflammation of the gums
  • Difficulty eating or loss of appetite
  • Discomfort, lumps, or bleeding in or around the mouth
  • Swelling under the eye
  • Pawing at the mouth.

These are all indications your pet should come in for a dental check as soon as possible.

Limited Free Dental Checks Are Available as Part of August Dental Month.

What’s Dental Club?

Dental Club rewards you for taking the best of care for your pet’s dental health. We believe pets should have an annual scale and polish to keep their teeth and gums healthy. To encourage this we are offering discounted services for annual procedures and reduced costs on dental products.
